“Their Oath and Sacred Honor”

By John Woods -

An oath of office is a Vow that must be adhered to so as to maintain one’s Sacred Honor…It not only pledges one’s Sacred Honor but states that one will be truthful and pursue their duties with Integrity…

The main reason one takes an Oath is to espouse one's Fidelity and instill confidence in the Citizenry…

If the Oath means nothing to an Office Holder, then how can the Citizens have any confidence in those Office Holders to faithfully carry out their duties?

The Oath of Office of a Citrus County Commissioner is as follows:

"I do solemnly swear that I will support, protect and defend the Constitution and Government of the United States and of the State of Florida, that I am duly qualified to hold office under the Constitution of the State; and that I will well and faithfully perform the duties of Commissioner for Citrus County, Florida, upon which I am now about to enter. So Help Me God."

The Oath includes words such as:

Oath: Which is defined as a solemn, formal declaration or promise to fulfill a pledge…

Solemnly: Which is defined as a Behavior or Expression which is very serious or formal in manner…

Swear: Which is defined as making a solemn declaration in confirmation of and witness to the honesty or truth of a declaration…

Qualified: Which is defined a having the appropriate qualifications for an Office, Position or Task…

Faithfully: Which is defined as adhering firmly and devotedly to a person, cause or idea…

All of these words are part and parcel of the Oath of Office of a Citrus County Commissioner…

Words the present Commissioners swore by as they took their respective oaths of office…

They have been entrusted by the Voters to diligently carry out with Integrity and Honesty the Duties they swore to perform…

With Roads not being paved, Fees, Taxes and Assessments being raised time and time again and the appearance of special treatment for some…

One must ask…Have they abided by their Oaths?  Have they been honest with the Voters?

You be the judge of the foregoing…If they have abided by their Oath and faithfully carried out the duties of their Office…then you must praise them and return them to Office…If they have broken their Solemn Oath and failed to carry out their duties…they must be voted out of Office…
