One County at a Time

Image
By Billy Cayce - To save our country, we have to start locally. And Citrus County is a good place to start. We need to put an end to the Good Old Boy & Girl System! Unfortunately for the common man and woman, greed and the lust for power have crept into our elections, with candidates willing do their power brokers' bidding. Evidently, Citrus County has more than a few power brokers. Among the more notable ones are Wallace Gene McGee (a lobbyist for the Citrus County School Board and the Citrus County Board of Commissioners), the hierarchy at the Chamber of Commerce and the Citrus County Chronicle.      Recently, we petitioned the Citrus County Board of Commissioners to remove all LBGTQ Displays from the Citrus County libraries, especially in the children’s section. After presenting our concerns to the Board of Commissioners on several occasions, they finally agreed to place the matter on the agenda for a vote during the January 4, 2022 Commission meeting at 1 p.m. Please come

Two Key Points

Image
By Dr. Paul John Reinhardt - Open and transparent government is essential to our democracy. As a Florida House candidate, I know that Florida's citizens have both constitutional and statutory guarantees of access to government records and meetings. Access to this information is vital for citizens to exercise their political power. I pledge to abide by the spirit and letter of Florida's longstanding Public Records and Open Meetings Laws, collectively known as our Sunshine Laws. It's really very simple: I uphold the citizens' constitutional right of access as established by the Florida Constitution. It's the law. I also support fostering a plan for startup businesses within our district. This would help formation of high-tech startups instead of depending on a low-wage workforce in the fast-food industry. Business Incubators can assist the formation of good paying jobs. Locations for incubators can be in empty stores in the abandoned mall and in the empty strip malls

The Flickering Light

Image
By Frank D. Lovell - I’ve said all this before so sorry for the rerun, Patriots, but I feel the need to express it once again. Being aware of the historical rise and fall of governments and civilizations, coupled with an awareness of U.S. history up to today, I reach one conclusion: America as we know it is headed to a total dismantling; it will be gone, and once that happens, it will be forever. No Americans in our history have faced such a dangerous time. I won’t go into history to express how the attack started, at least since around the 1930s, minor changes, unknown to most and continuing throughout the years. I don’t feel the need to prove what I say; it’s all there in our recorded history for all to see, if one took the time. The only change in this attack is today it is visible; it has surfaced, I suspect, out of fear of losing all it has gained throughout the years. The America First policy was and is a threat to all their plans. The One World Government agenda has been active

Letter to the Editor: Stop SEL in our schools

Image
In the last two months, the Citrus County School Board has been made aware of the insidious Harmony SEL (Social Emotional Learning) program and how it is being used to indoctrinate our children. It is CRT rebranded. Inquiries via emails were sent to each of the five School Board members. Out of the five, only one seemed to be concerned enough to respond. The response was at least a start but offered no concrete assurances that our children would not be subjected to Harmony SEL any further. So? Was the one response rendered just to placate the parents, voters, taxpayers and veterans? Or was it sincere? And with no answer from the other four, it makes one wonder if they are totally oblivious to the indoctrination or in favor of the indoctrination or afraid to take a stand. We need to elect School Board members who will let good teachers return to what they do best: teaching reading, writing, math, science and integrity. We need to elect School Board Members that will not allow the Social

County Commission schedules vote on LGBT library displays

Image
By John Labriola - Conservatives' months-long crusade to stop LGBT political propaganda displays in Citrus County's libraries may finally be reaching resolution. After punting the issue to a defiant county library administration for most of this year, Citrus County commissioners will decide the question themselves at their next meeting. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. in the County Commission Chamber, Citrus County Courthouse, 110 Apopka Ave., Inverness FL 34450. At issue is whether the county's libraries will continue serving as taxpayer-funded LGBT propaganda centers during the month of June in celebration of "Gay Pride Month."  Since June, dozens of citizens have shown up at county commission meetings demanding an end to the displays, which have featured rainbow flags and LGBT slogans along with books celebrating homosexuality and gender dysphoria. In July, Commissioners said they want the libraries to get out of the business of prom

Leftist Cancel Culture Hypocrisy

Image
By John Labriola - A violent crime wave is sweeping America. Across the nation, from Philadelphia to Chicago to San Francisco, far-left state prosecutors and district attorneys, instead of enforcing the law, are undercutting the police at every turn by letting violent criminals go free to offend again  –  and even to murder.   The recent Christmas parade massacre in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha that killed five and injured many more was carried out by Black Nationalist career criminal and child sex offender Darrell Brooks, who was out on the streets instead of in jail as a direct result of so-called "criminal justice reforms" championed by these leftist prosecutors.  The person most responsible for these deadly policies is leftist billionaire financier George Soros, who has bankrolled the campaigns of many of these radical district attorneys, including the one in the Milwaukee/Waukesha district.  Fox News' website recently published an excellent political cartoon by A

Bait and Switch

Image
By Billy Cayce - Candidate Dr. Ralph Massullo appears to have pulled a bait and switch on the voters of Florida State House District 34. He held a fundraiser as the Florida State Representative of this district and then a short time later announced his bid for the Florida State Senate. This appears to be misleading and unprofessional. Therefore, I feel Dr. Massullo owes the voters a full and truthful explanation as to why he switched.   At the same time Dr. Massullo entered the race for Florida State Senate, an unknown Democrat entered the race for Florida State House District 34. It appears that this is a clever ploy by the “elites” to maintain a “closed primary” so Democrats and NPAs that see through this clever ploy cannot cross party lines to vote for Republican Dr. Paul Reinhardt.   To date, four candidates have entered the race for Florida House District 34: Republican Dr. Paul Reinhardt, Rebecca Bays (Mrs. Michael Bays), Dale Merrill and an unknown Democrat by the name of Nancy

American heroes can preserve the American Way

Image
By Frank D. Lovell - Heroes, what are they? To me, from childhood, it was just someone who always did the right thing for America. You know, like that freedom, equality, justice and safety thing we grew up with. Those were in the fictional figures we grew up with. Well Superman, or the actor who played him in the 1950s, was kind of cool, until he killed himself, but you get the picture. Now as we mature, we learn about real-life heroes. Let’s start with all the servicemembers who still believe in the “American Way,” as well as the many who have tragically proven it with their lives. We now move on to all those who maintain our safety and wellbeing, and those who have tragically proven it. Then, for the final hero, we move to each and every American living their average life as best they can, who at some point when encountered with a situation have responded in the manner of a hero. You see, everyone can be a hero. Some just haven’t had the opportunity to prove it. I see and feel that o

The County Commission must do its job

Image
(A resident speaks at the library board meeting.) By John Labriola - Citrus County Library Director Eric Head doubled down on his support for LGBT propaganda displays in the county libraries at last week's Library Advisory Board meeting. After several concerned residents showed up at the Dec. 9 meeting to demand answers following months of mixed messages and a lack of transparency, Library Board Chairwoman April McLaughlin read a pre-approved statement indicating that nothing would change, despite months of complaints from dozens of parents and citizens.  That means that unless the County Commission acts, the county's libraries will once again be turned into taxpayer-funded LGBT propaganda centers during the entire month of June in observation of "Gay Pride Month" by featuring child-endangering ideological displays complete with rainbow flags and slogans celebrating homosexuality and gender dysphoria.  This may come as a surprise to anyone who attended the Nov. 9 coun

Do Citrus County conservatives have an apathy problem?

Image
(Legislative delegation hears from citizens.) By John Labriola - Citrus County voters rejected the Biden/Harris ticket by a greater than 2-to-1 margin last November, but you wouldn't know it from attending last week's annual state legislative delegation meeting in the Citrus County Courthouse.  Florida Senate President Wilton Simpson and State Rep. Ralph Massullo listened for two hours as local elected officials, activists and citizens shared their concerns and desires for state legislative action on a variety of issues.  Among the speakers were two representatives of the Democratic Women's Club of Citrus County who spoke in favor of abortion on demand and free tampons in the schools, two retired teachers who defended anti-white Critical Race Theory (CRT) and demanded restrictions on gun rights, and a local representative of the leftist League of Women Voters who spoke out against Gov. Ron DeSantis' efforts to weed out voter fraud. Nobody rose to defend the right to lif

Give residents Electric Choice

Image
PAUL REINHARDT By Paul Reinhardt - On Dec. 10,  before Representative Massullo and Senator Simpson, I presented a proposal on Florida  adopting Electric Choice. My presentation went as follows:  Today marks almost 42 years to the hour that I have lived in Citrus County Florida. The constituents need electric choice. Duke Energy just announced another rate hike. States like Pennsylvania let you choose your electric provider much the way you choose your cell phone provider, long distance service, and the way you shop for gasoline. Just the other day just 10 miles from Citrus County in Sumter County, I paid $2.81 a gallon. That was my choice. Analogous to a power grid, all gasoline is brought in from ports in Tampa or Jacksonville.   Seniors are on fixed incomes are able to choose their Medicare insurance. Why not let them choose a less expensive electric company? Electrical  supply should not be a monopoly. It should be the choice of the people. In Pennsylvania, the delivery method remai

Unity is a Weapon

Image
By Frank D. Lovell - Americans have faced many attacks on this Republic in the past, mostly from foreign origins which our military has resolved. Today we face the most challenging attacks, for they are internal: they hide in sheep’s clothing but have the heart of a wolf; they are a predator. They utilize our Constitutional protections while their intent is to do away with those protections; their intent is to dissolve the America we all grew up in. The greatest advantage they have is what they are doing is extremely difficult for a lot of Americans to believe. Many have been conditioned through a lifetime of freedom to believe, “no, not in America, that could never happen.” If you believe that, it is critical you do research on what is happening in America: to understand the “woke” you must be “awake.” Unlike in the past, we cannot rely on our military: this is a battle Americans must fight on their own. In doing so, mainly to promote the spread of information in the effort to make Am

Holly Davis never saw a tax she didn't like

Image
HOLLY DAVIS By John Labriola - The Citrus County Commission last week rejected a universal trash pickup plan that would have raised everybody's trash bill, but not everyone on the commission was pleased with the decision. The defeated proposal would have caused many residents to pay over $100 a year more for trash pickup than they are paying under the current system, which allows a variety of garbage contractors to operate in the county. Liberal Commissioner Holly Davis wanted to keep the deeply unpopular universal garbage collection plan alive but joined the rest of her colleagues in voting to kill it only after she realized it was going down to defeat. "I'm not happy about this, but yes," Davis said during the roll call. A "Yes" vote was for rejecting universal trash collection. ( See video .) It was the second time in the past month that Davis had argued in favor of a tax increase that ultimately went down in flames. At a Nov. 9 commission workshop to dis

Commissioner Carnahan refuses to apologize for insulting Christian conservatives

Image
By John Labriola - County Commissioner Scott Carnahan last week refused to apologize for mocking Christian conservative voters who oppose taxpayer-funded LGBT propaganda campaigns in Citrus County libraries.  As recently reported, Commissioner Carnahan called citizens' concerns " a joke " after more than a dozen people showed up at the Nov. 9 commission meeting to demand an end to library displays celebrating homosexual and transgender perversion.  When asked during the public comment portion of the Nov. 30 commission meeting about his insulting remark, he refused to take the opportunity to apologize to the voters.  "I have nothing to say, nothing at all to say," he snarled.  On a bright note, Carnahan will no longer be presiding over commission meetings. His one-year term as chairman ended last week when Commissioner Ron Kitchen was chosen by his colleagues as the new chairman for 2021-22, overcoming an abortive effort by Commissioner Holly Davis and her libera

Residents can speak out against proposed Turnpike extension through Citrus County

Image
By John Labriola - As if the coming Suncoast Parkway weren't enough, the Florida Department of Transportation is planning an extension of the Florida Turnpike that could have it running through Citrus County under certain scenarios. Two of the four alternative alignments currently being considered for the proposed Northern Turnpike Extension would take it through Citrus County –  bringing traffic congestion, urban sprawl, and the inevitable political-demographic transformation that goes along with that.  Citrus County residents will have an opportunity to voice their opposition to the project at an FDOT public meeting on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the College of Central Florida, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto, FL 34461. Residents who aren't available that day can attend a virtual meeting to be held on Dec. 7. To register for either meeting, go to www.floridasturnpike.com/NTE .    Voters will have another chance to sound off about the proposed Turnpike extensio

Fight back: Join an advisory board

Image
Taking America back begins at the local level. As we have seen , even in "deep red" counties like Citrus, liberals are making alarming inroads by packing advisory boards where they proceed to chip away at our conservative values by pushing their subversive agendas with little or no notice from the public.  It's time to take back control of our communities by getting more involved. Citrus County has more than a dozen advisory councils that you can become a member of. Apply to join one today!  Learn more HERE .
