Holly Davis never saw a tax she didn't like
The Citrus County Commission last week rejected a universal trash pickup plan that would have raised everybody's trash bill, but not everyone on the commission was pleased with the decision.
The defeated proposal would have caused many residents to pay over $100 a year more for trash pickup than they are paying under the current system, which allows a variety of garbage contractors to operate in the county.
Liberal Commissioner Holly Davis wanted to keep the deeply unpopular universal garbage collection plan alive but joined the rest of her colleagues in voting to kill it only after she realized it was going down to defeat.
"I'm not happy about this, but yes," Davis said during the roll call. A "Yes" vote was for rejecting universal trash collection. (See video.)
It was the second time in the past month that Davis had argued in favor of a tax increase that ultimately went down in flames. At a Nov. 9 commission workshop to discuss funding road repairs, Davis said she supported placing a referendum on the ballot for an extra 1 cent sales surtax per gallon despite soaring gas prices under Biden, but the idea was rejected by her colleagues.
During this year's budget process, Davis also argued for a higher property tax rate than what the commission adopted.
But in September, Davis got her way when she was joined by three other commissioners in voting to create a new stormwater assessment of $58 for residents with homes of between 1,200 and 3,100 square feet and $100 for homes between 3,101 and 6,000 square feet.
So by unanimous opinion of the judges, the "Tax and Spend" award for 2021 goes to Commissioner Holly Davis.
When is she up for reelection? Until the "elected" people realize that the people's trust is not to be toyed with and that the position entrusted to them is not to be taken for granted and is not an open check book, we need people that will stand guard over them, reporting back to the people, such as the publication and others, the truth and keeping us informed.
ReplyDeleteIt is time for the citizens of this county to get involved and stand up to this type of tax and spend agenda.
No, Holly Davis, you are wrong in your ideas and in your agenda. Looking for a challenger for you as we speak. Don't get too comfy, you should expect to be moved out at the next election.
A concerned Citizen who does not appreciate the ideas of this woman.
Agreed!
