A Reader's Perspective: Liberal bias at the Citrus County Chronicle

In a recent Letter to the Editor in the Citrus County Chronicle, an 81-year-old Homosassa gentleman stated that he had not taken the vaccination, had gotten and recovered from covid and his natural antibodies keep him safe.  He further asked if the ‘lockdown of the world’s economies plus other human devastations, such as our education system’ really were necessary. Great question, and one that any intelligent person should ask.

This prompted what appears to be a rebuttal by the editor, suggesting that this man was wrong. ow can anyone be wrong about their own experiences? Or is it that the Chronicle only wants to see one side?

As a member of a very large conservative group in the county, I frequently had letters in that section until I noticed that my letters were being heavily edited to the point they did not convey what I had written.  This prompted a rather heated phone conversation with editor Mike Arnold in which he said the Chronicle has the right to edit to prevent vulgar words. I pointed out that none of my letters had such language and furthermore, that the Chronicle did not have the right to change entire paragraphs and change the meaning. In a really cowardly move, my emails were blocked from the Chronicle.  I immediately cancelled a 27-year long subscription to the Chronicle.

Members of our conservative group told me that either they were also blocked or that their letters were heavily edited, and the meaning changed before printing.

Don’t you think the Chronicle should be fair and stop blocking conservative letters or stop severely editing them to the point of changing the meaning? Maybe stop being so liberal or at least state that they are not fair and that they are indeed a liberal newspaper?

  1. Harry - The Chronicle seems to think it is unbiased, but they are not. I have sent in sound-offs that just never get included and they do not have anything vulgar or untrue in them. They also say they don't want to print anything political but then they print letter after letter denigrating our Governor De Santis who, in my humble opinion, is doing an outstanding and courageous job of keeping our state free and economically sound.

Editing should be a last resort if there are space limitations, and any edit should be approved by the author before publication. They really don't want conservative viewpoints. And they will keep losing subscribers...perhaps they want to go out of business.
